    Sauce: Chocolate Syrup

    Source of Recipe

From "Back in the Day Bakery: Made with Love" by Cheryl Day

    List of Ingredients

â—¦ 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    â—¦ 1 cup granulated sugar
    â—¦ 1 cup water
â—¦ ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
â—¦ 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

    Recipe

In a medium bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder and sugar.

In a medium heavy saucepan, combine the water, salt, and vanilla and stir to combine. Add the cocoa-sugar mixture, whisking to combine. Bring to a low boil over medium-low heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar, then boil for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally so the bottom of the pan doesn't scorch. The mixture will thicken just slightly, but it will thicken into a syrup-like consistency as it cools. Remove from the heat and let cool to room temperature.

Pour the cooled syrup into a jar with a lid and cover tightly.
The syrup can be refrigerated for up to 1 month.

    Makes 2 cups
