Recipe Introduction
"As an adopted Nashvillian, it would be a crime to not pay homage to one of the South's greatest confectionary creationsthe Goo Goo Cluster. Created in Nashville by the Standard Candy Company, this beloved treat has been a favorite the world over for more than a century. In fact, the nutty, caramel, chocolate, and marshmallow combination bar was the first of its kind, standing out amongst a pack of all-chocolate bars. Throughout the Great Depression, Goo Goo Clusters were hawked as a 'nourishing lunch for a nickel.' My, oh my, how times they have changed. In any event, I like to make up a big batch of brownies, fortified with this delicious treat, and serve them warm with a hearty helping of vanilla ice cream on the side. Since my wife, Callie, and I are often entertaining, this happens to be one of our go-to desserts to serve friends. Honestly, for the time, taste, and nostalgiathis dessert is hard to beat."
