Recipe Introduction
"As an adopted Nashvillian, it would be a crime to not pay homage to one of the South's greatest confectionary creations—the Goo Goo Cluster. Created in Nashville by the Standard Candy Company, this beloved treat has been a favorite the world over for more than a century. In fact, the nutty, caramel, chocolate, and marshmallow combination bar was the first of its kind, standing out amongst a pack of all-chocolate bars. Throughout the Great Depression, Goo Goo Clusters were hawked as a 'nourishing lunch for a nickel.' My, oh my, how times they have changed. In any event, I like to make up a big batch of brownies, fortified with this delicious treat, and serve them warm with a hearty helping of vanilla ice cream on the side. Since my wife, Callie, and I are often entertaining, this happens to be one of our go-to desserts to serve friends. Honestly, for the time, taste, and nostalgia—this dessert is hard to beat."

Lift brownies from pan, using foil sides as handles. Gently remove foil, and cut into 9 squares. To serve, reheat brownies, and serve warm with ice cream.
