Grandma Jane's Banana Pudding

- 2 cups sugar
- 6 Tbsp flour
- 6 egg yolks
- 3 cups milk
- 1 stick butter
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 box vanilla wafers
- 6 bananas, sliced
- 6 egg whites
- 1/2 cup sugar
Instructions
- Mix 2 cups sugar and flour; set aside. In a large pan, blend egg yolks and milk. Add flour and sugar mixture; add butter and vanilla. Cook on medium heat until pudding is thick, then cool.
- In a cake-size pan, layer vanilla wafers, bananas and 1/2 pudding. Repeat layer once more.
- Make a stiff meringue using 6 egg whites and 1/2 cup sugar. Spread on top of pudding and bake at 425 degrees (F) for 5 minutes; cool.
