    Sauce: Caramel Strawberry Sauce

    List of Ingredients


    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1/2 cup water
    • 2 pints strawberries, hulled and thickly sliced
    • 2 Tbsp dark rum or 1 tsp vanilla


    Instructions


    1. In a large heavy saucepan, stir together the sugar and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring, until the sugar has dissolved. Bring to a boil and continue boiling without stirring until the syrup is a light golden caramel color, about 10 to 12 minutes.

    2. Add the strawberries, standing back, as the caramel will bubble up. Reduce the heat to medium and cook, stirring, until the caramel dissolves and the strawberries have softened, about 3 minutes.

    3. Remove from the heat and stir in the rum or vanilla. Serve warm, at room temperature, or chilled over vanilla ice cream.

      Makes about 3 cups.
