    Cold Buster Tea

    Source of Recipe

From "The Honeysuckle Cookbook" by Dzung Lewis

    Recipe Introduction

"When you're not feeling your best, this tea works wonders. It's inspired by the traditional Korean citron tea, which is a honey and yuzu citrus mixture. While technically not a 'tea,' this cold buster offers all the soothing goodness of a hot tea to pacify a sore throat when you're sick (and just the right answer if you're looking for a more 'natural' solution). I added turmeric here for its anti-inflammatory properties, and I also used fresh ginger because it's great for soothing coughs. I recommend buying pre-grated ginger as an easy shortcut."

    List of Ingredients

    â—¦ 1 (2-inch) piece fresh ginger, peeled
    â—¦ 1 cup raw honey
    â—¦ 1 tablespoon ground turmeric
â—¦ 2 lemons, halved lengthwise, thinly sliced, and seeded
â—¦ 1 orange, halved lengthwise, thinly sliced, and seeded
    â—¦ Hot water

    Recipe

With a mortar and pestle, grind the ginger into a paste. In a large bowl, mix together the ginger, honey, and turmeric, then stir in the lemons and orange. Mix well.

For each serving, put about 2 heaping tablespoons of the mixture into a mug (citrus and all), fill with hot water, and stir to blend.

Transfer any leftover citrus mixture to an airtight container and refrigerate up to one month. You can use it straight from the fridge when you're ready for more.

    Makes 8 to 10 drinks

    • Note:
If you're in a hurry, you can use 2 tablespoons store-bought minced ginger or ginger paste, from a tube or jar.
