    Self-Love Mug

    Source of Recipe

From "Good Enough: A Cookbook" by Leanne Brown

    Recipe Introduction

"Being handed a mug of something hot feels like love to me. It's comforting, it's soothing, it's intimate. When I feel bad, whether physically or emotionally, it really can give a little boost of warmth and tend that little fire in my belly that might be lagging. In the spirit of that heat, the ginger here is important. It's not overpowering, like in ginger beerit's mellowed by the oat milkbut it has that fiery, warming quality, and along with the aroma of cardamom and the sweetness and frothiness, it just...I close my eyes and I'm in a cabin n the woods and a magical old lady is handing me a mug of this and I trust her and I take a sip and the world shifts and it's scary for a second and then I'm warm and happy and I *know* I am loved. I love making this for myself and feeling like a magical witch powerful enough to bring that experience to reality."

    List of Ingredients

    ◦ cup water
    ◦ 1 tablespoon sugar or honey
    ◦ 1-inch piece of ginger, sliced
    ◦ 8 cardamom pods, crushed, or teaspoon ground cardamom
    ◦ Pinch of fine sea salt
    ◦ 1 cup oat milk

    Recipe

Place the water, sugar, ginger, cardamom, and salt in a small pot and bring to a simmer over low heat. Stir to dissolve the sugar, then let the mixture simmer gently for 15 minutes.

Pour in the oat milk and let it heat through until a few bubbles form. Turn off the heat, put a lid on the pot, and let the potion steep for 10 minutes.

To serve, pour the potion through a sieve to catch the ginger and cardamom. To create a little frothiness, pour it into a favorite mug from high up. Enjoy immediately.

    Serves 1

❧ Steeping allows the flavors from the ginger and cardamom to infuse further and gives the feeling of letting the magic happen and also lets the potion cool just a bit so you can drink it right away.
