    Bacon-Wrapped BBQ Burgers

    Source of Recipe

From "Picnics, Potlucks, & Porch Parties" by Aimee Broussard

    List of Ingredients

    • 8 slices bacon
    • ½ cup chopped sweet onion
    • 2 tsp olive oil
    • ½ cup Homemade BBQ Sauce
    • 1½ pounds ground beef
    • ¼ tsp salt
    • ¼ tsp black pepper
    • 4 hamburger buns, toasted

    Instructions

    1. Arrange bacon on a paper towel-lined microwave-safe plate; cover with another paper towel. Microwave on high for 2 minutes or until edges begin to crinkle, and bacon is partially cooked (can be done ahead).

    2. Preheat grill on medium-high heat. Combine onion and olive oil with ground beef, and shape into 4 patties, slightly indenting the centers. Wrap sides of each patty with 2 bacon slices, overlapping ends. Secure with a wooden toothpick. Sprinkle patties with salt and black pepper.

    3. Grill hamburger patties, covered with grill lid, 5 to 6 minutes on each side. Turn and brush with barbecue sauce (either the homemade sauce or your own). Remove from grill, and let stand 4 to 5 minutes. Remove toothpicks, and serve on buns.

      Serves 4

      Homemade BBQ Sauce:

      ◦  1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
      ◦  ½ cup apple cider vinegar
      ◦  ⅓ cup honey
      ◦  ¼ cup tomato paste
      ◦  ¼ cup molasses
      ◦  3 Tbsp Worcestershire
      ◦  2 tsp liquid smoke
      ◦  1 tsp smoked paprika
      ◦  1 tsp garlic powder
      ◦  ½ tsp black pepper
      ◦  ½ tsp onion powder
      ◦  ½ tsp salt

Whisk all ingredients together in a medium saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to medium low and simmer, uncovered, 20 minutes, or until sauce has thickened slightly.

Use sauce immediately; or refrigerate in a Mason jar, covered, for up to 1 week.

      Makes 2 cups
