    Labor Day: Barbecue Beans *

    Adapted from Southern Living

    List of Ingredients


    • 5 slices bacon
    • ½ medium onion, chopped
    • 2/3 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
    • ¾ cup barbecue sauce
    • 1 (15-ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
    • 1 (15-ounce) can butter beans, rinsed and drained
    • 1 (15-ounce) can pork and beans, undrained
    • 2 Tbsp molasses
    • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
    • ½ tsp salt
    • ½ tsp pepper
    • ½ tsp chili powder


    Instructions


    1. Cook bacon in a Dutch oven until crisp; drain and crumble.

    2. Cook onion in bacon drippings to soften. Stir in bacon and all remaining ingredients. Spoon into a 2-quart baking dish. Chill for 8 hours or overnight, if desired.

    3. Bake bean mixture at 350° F for 1 hour, stirring once.

      Makes 10 servings.
