Thanksgiving: Classic White Dressing

- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 2 cups diced onion
- 2 cups diced celery
- 7 cups cubed stale white bread
- 2½ cups chicken broth
- ½ cup whole milk
- 3 Tbsp minced fresh sage
- 3 Tbsp minced fresh parsley
- 1 Tbsp minced fresh thyme
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup chicken broth
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375° F; coat a 9- x 13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray.
- Sauté onion and celery in butter in a large sauté pan over medium heat until soft, about 5 minutes. Add bread, toss to combine, then stir in broth, milk, herbs, and seasonings. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer until liquids are absorbed. Remove pan from heat.
- Whisk eggs and broth together, then gradually add to bread mixture. Transfer to prepared dish and bake until set, about 45 minutes.
Makes 9 cups.
