    Valentine's Day: Chocolate-Covered Strawberries

    Source of Recipe

From "The Pioneer Woman Cooks: A Year of Holidays"

    List of Ingredients

    • 24 ounces good-quality semisweet chocolate chips
    • 6 ounces white chocolate chips or white bar chocolate
    • 12 to 16 large strawberries

    Instructions

    1. Melt both chips in separate glass bowls set over saucepans of simmering water or in the microwave. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    2. Grab a strawberry and gently lay it on its side in the bowl of semisweet chocolate. Hold it by its leaves and twist it so that it's mostly coated with chocolate. Gently lay it on its side on a sheet of parchment, then repeat with the rest of the strawberries. Let them sit at room temperature for 30 minutes, to set slightly. (If you're in a hurry, you may place the strawberries in the refrigerator.)

    3. Take the melted white chocolate, place it in a pastry bag or plastic storage bag with a small hole cut in the corner, and drizzle stripes all over the chocolate. Decorate the rest of the strawberries, then store them in the refrigerator to set completely. Serve them on a pretty cake stand...or place them in small bags for delivery.

      Makes 12 to 16 strawberries.

      Variations:

      • Use any colors of candy melts for the contrasting design.
      • Dip the strawberries in white chocolate instead of semisweet chocolate.
      • Dip the strawberries in milk chocolate instead of semisweet chocolate for a sweeter flavor.
      • Instead of contrasting stripes, sprinkle on finely chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, crushed chocolate cookies, or pink or red sprinkles.
