    Four-Bean Bake with Hamburger

    Recipe Introduction

    "Visitors to the Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival at the Kortright Centre for Conservation in Woodbridge, Ontario, get a bonus with the guide they use to take a self-guided tour of the bush: maple recipes, including this one for a casserole that would travel well to a sugaring-off party or another potluck event."

    List of Ingredients

    â—¦ ½ pound lean ground beef
    â—¦ ½ cup chopped onion
    â—¦ 2 cups baked beans (one 16-ounce can)
    â—¦ 1 cup canned cannellini beans, rinsed and drained
    â—¦ 1 cup canned pinto beans, rinsed and drained
    â—¦ 1 cup canned red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
    â—¦ 6 tablespoons barbecue sauce
    â—¦ 6 tablespoons pure maple syrup
    â—¦ 3 teaspoons prepared mustard
    â—¦ Salt and freshly ground black pepper

    Recipe

    Preheat the oven to 400° F. Sauté the ground beef and onion in a large heavy skillet for 4 to 5 minutes over medium-high heat.

    Stir in the baked beans, cannellini beans, pinto beans, kidney beans, barbecue sauce, maple syrup, and mustard. Add salt and pepper to taste. Bring the mixture to a boil.

    Transfer the mixture to a Dutch oven or casserole dish and bake for 20 to 30 minutes, stirring constantly, until bubbly.

    Makes 4 servings
