List of Ingredients
- One 5- to 6-pound cooked bone-in smoked ham
- 1/3 cup apple cider or juice
- 1/3 cup apple chutney
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp whole cloves
- 1/2 tsp whole allspice
- 1/2 tsp arrowroot dissolved in 2 tsp water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325° F.
- Drain ham and put onto a large sheet of aluminum foil set into a roasting pan. Score top of ham with deep slashes in a diamond pattern. Drape another sheet of foil over ham and fold both sheets around it.
- Bake 20 minutes per pound or until a meat thermometer reaches 140° F.
- While the ham is baking, prepare the glaze: Combine apple cider, chutney, brown sugar, cloves and allspice in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook 5 minutes. Stir in the dissolved arrowroot and simmer 1 minute. Remove from heat and set aside.
- About 30 minutes before the ham is done, remove foil covering ham and pour half of glaze over the top, making sure that some gets into the slashes. (It's not necessary to remove spices first.) Repeat after 20 minutes. Remove from oven.
Makes 16 servings.
