    E.R. Rogers' Bread Pudding

    Source of Recipe

Elisabeth Huus, E.R. Rogers' (Steilacoom, WA)

    List of Ingredients

    • 5-1/2 cups cubed sourdough * (day-old bread is great)
    • 1-1/2 cups heavy cream
    • 2 ounces butter
    • 1/2 cup raisins
    • 1/2 cup coffee liqueur (such as Kahlua)
    • 3 eggs
    • 2 cups sugar
    • 1-1/2 tsp vanilla

    Instructions

    1. Pour cream over bread cubes in bowl and let soak for one-half hour.

    2. Melt butter in a saucepan; add raisins and coffee liqueur. Flame off alcohol. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar and vanilla until smooth. Pour butter mixture into egg mixture and whisk smooth.

    3. Pour over bread and gently mix. Spoon into individual (ovenproof) dishes and cook for 1- to 1-1/2 hours in 350-degree (F) oven. Time will vary with ovens and cooking dishes.

      * Use cinnamon rolls or other sweet bread in place of the sourdough. It surely adds more fat and calories, but with this dessert, you'd better not be counting anyway!
