    Macaroni au Gratin

    List of Ingredients


    • 1 (8-ounce) package elbow macaroni (about 2 cups)
    • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
    • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
    • 2 cups milk
    • 8 ounces process American cheese, cubed
    • 1 Tbsp minced onion
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
    • 1/4 tsp pepper
    • 1/4 tsp dry mustard
    • 2 Tbsp Italian-seasoned breadcrumbs
    • Butter or margarine


    Instructions


    1. Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain. Place in a greased 2-quart baking dish; set aside.

    2. Melt 1/4 cup butter in a large heavy saucepan over low heat; whisk in flour until smooth. Cook 1 minute, whisking constantly. Gradually whisk in milk. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until mixture is thickened and bubbly. Reduce heat and add cheese, onion, salt, Worcestershire sauce, pepper and mustard; stir until cheese melts.

    3. Pour cheese mixture over macaroni and mix well. Sprinkle with breadcrumbs and dot lightly with additional butter. Bake, uncovered, at 375° for 30 minutes.

      Makes 4 to 6 servings.
