Natural Insect Repellent for Dogs & Horses

List of Ingredients
- 4 drops tea tree essential oil
- 4 drops citronella essential oil
- 4 drops eucalyptus essential oil
- 4 drops sage essential oil
- 4 drops cedarwood essential oil
- 4 drops orange essential oil
- 8 drops peppermint essential oil
- 4 ounces filtered water
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake well.
Apply directly to the animal, avoiding eyes and sensitive areas.
Can be reapplied as often as needed.
Final Comments
Essential oils should not be used on toy breed dogs or cats. Because of their size, toy breeds and cats are susceptible to adverse reactions to the strong aromas of the oils.
Flower water, which is a diluted version of the oils, is safe to use. You can make your own Natural Insect Repellent Flower Water by adding the oils in the recipe above to a 3½-ounce bottle of spring or de-ionized water. Leave it for a few days in the dark, and then filter it, using a paper coffee filter. Essential oils do not dissolve in water, but they do impart their scent to it -- as well as their therapeutic properties.
