Source of Recipe
Adapted from Bon Appetit, June 2004
List of Ingredients
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 1/2 cup catsup
- 3 green onions, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 large clove garlic, chopped
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp hot pepper sauce
- 18 chicken drumsticks, skin on
- Olive oil
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
- Mix the barbecue sauce, catsup, green onions, honey, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, pepper and hot pepper sauce in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring the sauce to a boil, stirring often. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer 15 minutes. (The sauce can be made 1 week ahead. Transfer to bowl, cover and refrigerate. Rewarm before serving.)
- If grilling, heat the barbecue to medium heat. Grill the drumsticks about 20 to 25 minutes. Brush the sauce on the drumsticks and cook 6 to 8 minutes, turning occasionally.
-- OR --
- Preheat the oven to 325º F. Brush a rimmed baking sheet with oil. Pat the drumsticks dry, brush with oil, and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Arrange on the baking sheet and roast about 25 to 30 minutes, turning once, then add the sauce and cook 6 to 8 minutes. (Drumsticks can be made a day ahead; cool slightly, cover and refrigerate. Reheat in the oven.)
The drumsticks are ready when they reach 175º F on an instant-read thermometer inserted in the thickest part. Serve with remaining sauce.
Makes 9 servings.
