    Homemade Cheese Sauce

    Recipe Introduction

    "A staple of French and Italian cuisine, this classic cheese sauce is basically just a fancy homemade Cheez Whiz! It's ideal for serving over nachos or fries and topping — or dunking — Mini Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches."

    List of Ingredients

    â—¦ 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
    â—¦ 2 tablespoons flour
    â—¦ 1 cup milk
    â—¦ Salt and pepper, to taste
    â—¦ â…› teaspoon dry mustard
    â—¦ Pinch cayenne pepper
    â—¦ â…” cup grated sharp cheddar cheese

    Recipe

    Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.

    Sprinkle in flour and whisk for about 2 minutes.
    Add milk and whisk until no lumps remain. Lightly season with salt and pepper.

    Once mixture thickens enough to coat a spoon, sprinkle in cheese, mustard, and cayenne pepper, stirring until melted and sauce is smooth.

    Makes about 1 ½ cups
