    Sweet Cajun Party Mix

    Source of Recipe

From "Little Bento" by Michele Olivier

    List of Ingredients

    • Cooking spray
    • 9 cups mixed cereal (wheat, corn, or rice Chex, Cheerios, bran flakes, etc)
    • 1 cup mini pretzel twists
    • 1 cup cashews (optional)
    • 1 cup cheese crackers, such as Cheddar Bunnies
    • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter or coconut oil
    • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
    • 2 tablespoons honey
    • 2 teaspoons Cajun spice mix
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • ½ teaspoon salt

    Instructions

    1. Preheat the oven to 250° F. Lightly coat two baking sheets with cooking spray. In a large bowl, combine the cereal, pretzels, cashews (if using), and cheese crackers.

    2. In a small microwave-safe bowl, heat the butter, Worcestershire sauce, honey, Cajun spice, garlic powder, and salt in 15-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the butter is melted, about 45 seconds. Pour the butter mixture over the cereal and mix until everything is evenly coated.

    3. Spread out the cereal mixture in an even layer on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 1 hour, stirring the cereal and rotating the trays every 15 minutes. Let cool completely.

      Makes 12 cups

    Final Comments

    • If you can't find Cajun spice mix, it's easy to make your own. In a small bowl, mix 2 ½ teaspoons paprika, 2 teaspoons garlic powder, 2 teaspoons salt, 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, 1 teaspoon dried thyme, and ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper. Store in an airtight container. It's great on grilled chicken, oven-roasted potatoes, burgers, or even your favorite sloppy Joe recipe.
