- 1/2 lb. elbow macaroni
- 2 Tbsp butter
- 3/4 cup milk
- 3/4 cup cream
- Salt
- Freshly ground white pepper
- Pinch of cayenne
- 2 cups grated sharp Cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 2 Tbsp butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350º F. Cook the macaroni in a large pot of boiling salted water until tender, about 6 minutes. Drain, toss with 2 tablespoons butter in medium bowl, and place in baking dish.
- Heat the milk and cream in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Season with salt, white pepper and cayenne. Stir in the cheese.
- When the cheese melts, pour sauce over macaroni and mix well. Sprinkle with the bread crumbs and dot with 2 tablespoons butter. Bake until golden brown and bubbly, 30 to 35 minutes.
