    Country Cabbage

    Source of Recipe

    From "Paula Deen Celebrates"

    List of Ingredients

    • 3 slices bacon
    • 3/4 of a medium (about 2 pounds) head of cabbage, cored and cut into chunks about the size of a golf ball
    • 1-1/2 tsp salt
    • 1/2 tsp pepper
    • 2 Tbsp (1/4 stick) butter (more, if desired)

    Instructions

    1. In a large heavy-bottomed stockpot with a lid, fry the bacon until it is crisp. Remove the bacon to paper towels, drain, crumble, and set aside.

    2. Add 1 cup water to the bacon grease. Add the cabbage. Bring to a boil and add the salt and pepper. Place the lid on the pot and reduce the heat to medium. Allow the cabbage to cook for 10 to 15 minutes, until it is to your liking.

    3. Remove the pot from the heat. Add the butter and stir until it is melted. Add the reserved crumbled bacon and stir.

      Serves 6 to 8
