    Southern-Style Baked Macaroni and Cheese

    List of Ingredients


    • 8 ounces elbow macaroni
    • 8 ounces grated sharp Cheddar cheese, divided
    • 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
    • 2 tsp sea salt
    • 1-1/2 tsp dry mustard
    • 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
    • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
    • 2/3 cup sour cream
    • 2 large eggs
    • 2 cups half-and-half
    • 1 cup heavy cream


    Instructions


    1. Cook the macaroni according to package directions. Drain the pasta, and then rinse with cool water. Place the macaroni into a buttered 3-quart casserole dish. Mix about 2/3 cup of the grated cheese into the macaroni.

    2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, mustard, black pepper, and cayenne. Whisk the sour cream into the dry ingredients until incorporated. Whisk in the eggs, followed by the half-and-half and cream. Pour the custard over the macaroni. Top with the remaining cheese.

    3. Bake the macaroni and cheese for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and browned around the edges.

      Serves 8 to 10
