    Baking Soda: Uses for Babies & Toddlers

    Source of Recipe

    *

    * Freshen Stuffed Animals & Toys:

    Keep favorite cuddly toys fresh with a dry shower of baking soda. Just sprinkle baking soda on and let it sit for 15 minutes before brushing off. It is safe for your baby and Teddy will appreciate it, too!

    * Freshen Baby's Laundry:

    Add 1/2 cup baking soda to your liquid laundry detergent or soap flakes to freshen baby laundry and to help the detergent work harder on those baby food stains! If you are using powder laundry detergent, add the 1/2 cup of baking soda in the rinse cycle to deodorize baby clothes.

    * Clean and Deodorize Baby Bottles:

    Fill bottles with warm water and add 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Shake, rinse, then thoroughly clean as usual. You may also soak bottles, nipples or bottle brushes overnight in a baking soda solution of 4 Tbsp of baking soda to 1 quart of warm water. Then rinse and clean as usual.

    * Clean Baby and Toddler Care Items:

    For heavy-duty and baby-safe cleaning of cribs, changing tables, baby mattresses, play pens, strollers, car seats and high chairs, sprinkle baking soda directly on a damp sponge and rub item clean. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry. Sparkling clean and no harsh cleaners!

    * Clean Baby's Brush and Comb:

    Clean baby combs and brushes by swishing them in a solution of 1 teaspoon of baking soda in a small basin of water. Rinse and allow to dry. (This also works on your comb and brush!)

    * Clean and Deodorize Baby Spills on Your Carpet:

    Clean and deodorize baby spills or accidents on your carpet by soaking up as much of the spill as possible. Clean the stain according to the carpet manufacturer's directions and allow to dry. When the area is dry, sprinkle liberally with baking soda and let sit for 15 minutes before vacuuming it up.

    * Deodorize Diaper Pails Safely:

    Keep your diaper pail smelling fresh by sprinkling baking soda liberally over dirty disposable diapers in the diaper pail. If you are using cloth diapers, soak dirty diapers in a solution of 2 quarts of warm water and 1/2 cup of baking soda.

    * Safe Cleaning of Baby Toys:

    Clean and deodorize baby toys safely and effectively, using 4 Tbsp of baking soda dissolved in one quart of warm water. Wash toys with a damp sponge or cloth, rinse and dry. A great alternative to harsh detergents for your baby!
