    Household: Problem-Solution

    Source of Recipe

    Basin Co-op (Durango, Colorado)
    * * *

    PROBLEM: Bathroom odors

SOLUTION: Place a shallow dish of baking soda behind the toilet to absorb bathroom odors.

    ----------------------------

    PROBLEM: Cloudy drinking glasses

SOLUTION: Soak them for an hour or longer in slightly warm (not boiled) white vinegar. Then use a nylon-net scrub to remove film.

    ----------------------------

PROBLEM: Food odors on cutting boards, utensils, etc.

SOLUTION: Deodorize cutting boards, utensils, dishes or pans by adding 1/4 cup of lemon juice to your dish water.

    ----------------------------

    PROBLEM: Fireplace soot odor

SOLUTION: To diminish and remove this odor, after you clean out the ashes, place a shallow pan of baking soda for a few hours in the fireplace.

    ----------------------------

    PROBLEM: Not-so-fresh garbage disposal

SOLUTION: Sprinkle baking soda in it along with a few drops diswashing liquid. Scrub with a brush (a new toilet brush works great). Then rinse the disposal with running water.

    ----------------------------

    PROBLEM: Ink stains

SOLUTION: The best way I have found to get out ink stains is to put rubbing alcohol on the stain -- it disappears. This must be done before washing.

    ----------------------------

    PROBLEM: Kitty litter

SOLUTION: To keep cat litter fresh smelling, mix baby powder in with the litter.

    ----------------------------

    Just another couple of ideas...

To freshen a laundry basket: Place a fabric softener sheet in the bottom of your laundry basket.

To freshen a linen closet: Spray cotton balls with your favorite scent. Once dry, place them in the corners and shelves of yoru linen closet.
