Recipe Introduction
Have you cleaned your coffeemaker lately? Gevalia Kaffe, purveyor of gourmet coffees, recommends vinegar and water as an ideal, cost-effective cleaning method to eliminate odors and help get rid of bacteria.

To clean your coffeemaker, mix 2 tablespoons white vinegar with 12 cups cold water (to fill the carafe). Pour the vinegar-and-water mixture through the coffeemaker, run the coffeemaker as you normally would (allowing it to cycle to the end), then turn it off and let it cool down. You can run the vinegar-and-water mixture through the coffeemaker an additional time. Run only water through the coffeemaker and repeat as necessary. Wash the carafe and filter with warm, soapy water and rinse.
Gevalia advises cleaning coffeemakers once a month or more, depending on how often the maker is used.
