    Miscellaneous: Lemon-Aid

    Source of Recipe

Excerpted from "Lemon Zest" by Lori Longbotham

    Recipe Introduction

Here are some hints and ideas for using lemon and lemon juice at home. Lori Longbotham wrote an entire book, Lemon Zest, on the usefulness of the lemon, which includes some great household tips and recipes. Here are a few of her ideas: * * *

    • Rub a little lemon juice on leather shoes or boots after polishing, then buff.

    • Clean a stainless steel sink by rubbing it gently with a paste of salt and lemon juice, then rinse.

    • To remove odors from chopping boards, rub with a lemon half, then rinse well.

    • Dispel lingering odors, like fish, from the kitchen by placing a few thick strips of lemon rind on a baking sheet in a warm oven for a few minutes.

    • To keep elbows smooth, rub with a lemon shell.

    • Press your fingernails into the pithy side of a lemon rind to clean them after doing dirty chores.
