My Cavatini Recipe
The original recipe came from a cookbook and I have adapted it to fit my family's tastes. Hope that you like it.
List of Ingredients
- 1 lb of Italian Sausage
- 1/2 lb of Ground Beef
- 1 quart size Jar of Home Canned Tomatoes or
- 1 lg Can of Whole Tomatoes
- 1 sm pkg of Pepperoni
- 1 med Onion Sliced
- 1 whole Green Pepper diced
- 6 cups of Pasta shapes ( rotelle, bow ties, shells etc. )
- 2 Cups of Shredded Mozzarella Cheese ( divided )
- 1 Jar of your Favorite Spaghetti Sauce. I use 4 Cheese.
Instructions
- Cook pasta according to directions on the package. Drain thoroughly.
- Brown the Sausage and Ground Beef until no longer pink. Add the onion and green pepper the last 5 minutes of cooking.
- Drain grease from meat and vegetables. Add the spaghetti sauce and the pepperoni. Heat through.
- Mix the drained pasta with the above mixture and combine well.
- Spread 1/2 of the mixture in a large greased baking dish. Spread 1 cup of the cheese over the top.
- Add the remaining mixture. Pour tomatoes over the top.
- Place in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes or until bubbly. Spread remaining 1 cup of cheese over the top and put back into the oven until the cheese is melted.
Final Comments
I serve this with crusty garlic bread and the family finishes it off. If there are leftovers, they are good heated the next day.
