Swedish Butter Cookies

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons maple syrup
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
confectioners' sugar, optionalRecipe
In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add syrup; mix well. Combine flour and baking soda - gradually add to creamed mixture. Divide dough into eight portions. Roll each portion into a 9-inch log.
Place 3 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 300 F for 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cut into 1-inch slices. Remove to wire racks to cool. Dust with confectioners' sugar if desired.
