    2 1/4 c. sifted flour
    3 t. double-action baking powder
    1 t. salt
    1 3/4 c. brown sugar, packed
    1/2 c shortening, softened
    1 c. milk
    1 t. vanilla
    2 large eggs

    Glaze:
    1/4 c. brown sugar, packed
    3 T. butter
    2 T. water

    Recipe



    Sift flour, baking powder into bowl with salt. Add sugar, shortening, milk, vanilla. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed in mixer or 300 strokes by hand, scrapping bowl constantly. Add eggs. Beat 2 more minutes. Bake 35-40 minutes at 350. Top should spring back when lightly touched. Cool. Frost with a fluffy cooked white icing. Top with glaze.

    Glaze:
    mix all ingredients. Bring to full rolling boil in saucepan, stirring constantly. Then without stirring, boil 1 1/2 minutes; do not overcook.

    Use 2 layer pans, 9 or 9", greased and floured or 9x13"
