Cold Water Cocoa Cake

1/2 c. butter
1/8 t. salt
1 3/4 c. sugar, divided
1 t. vanilla
1/2 c. cocoa
1 1/3 c. cold water, divided
2 1/2 c sifted cake flour
3 egg whites, beaten stiff
1 1/3 t. sodaRecipe
Cream together butter, salt, 1 c. sugar and vanilla. Blend cocoa and 1/3 c. cold water then add it alternately to mixture with the flour and remaining cold water. Fold in eggs whites that have been beaten with 3/4 c. sugar. Last, add soda which has been dissolved in a small amount of boiling water. Stir in thoroughly. Bake at 360 for 35 minutes.
