1 1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
3/8 c. milk
3/8 c. shortening
1/4 t. salt
3/4 t. vanilla
1/2 c. nuts, optionalRecipe
Mix together thoroughly in sauce pan sugar, milk, shortening and salt. Bring slowly to a full rolling boil, stirring constantly, and boil for 1 minute. Remove from fire and beat until lukewarm. Add vanilla. Continue beating until thick enough to spread. If icing becomes to stiff to spread, add 1 t. cream. Enough for 2-layer cake. Nuts may be pressed into the sides.
