Butternut Cake
2 sticks margarine or butter, softened
1 tablespoon Crisco shortening
3 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
5 large eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon butternut flavoring
1 cup chopped nuts
1 cup Maraschino cherries, drained and halved
Cream margarine or butter, Crisco and sugar together; add salt and eggs, one at a time, beating well with each addition. Alternate flour and milk, ending with flour. Add flavoring, nuts and cherries.
Grease and flour a Bundt pan. Bake in a cold oven, at 350° F. for 1 hour and 45 minutes. (
This freezes well.)
