    Sauerkraut Soup

    1 pound ground chuck
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon pepper
    1/2 cup uncooked rice
    1 green bell pepper, chopped
    1 egg
    1 large jar sauerkraut
    1 (28-oz.) can tomatoes
    5 cups water

    Combine ground chuck, salt, pepper, rice, green pepper and egg. Mix well; divide in half and set aside.
    In a large kettle, put half of a large jar sauerkraut and half of the meat mixture; repeat with remaining mixtures. Pour tomatoes, broken up, over the sauerkraut and meat. Add the water.
    Cover and simmer for 2 hours.
