1-1/2 cups milk
2 pkgs. yeast
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
3 egg yolks
1 whole egg
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
4-1/2 cups flour
oil for frying
confectioners sugar
Recipe
Scald milk and allow to cool to lukewarm. Dissolve the yeast in the milk. Beat sugar and butter until fluffy; add eggs, salt and vanilla. Add flour to milk mixture gradually, beating well. Let rise in a warm place until double in bulk (about 2 hours). Punch down, knead and let rise again.
Heat oil to 375. Use a spoon to scoop the dough and drop into hot oil until browned. Drain, and sprinkle with confectioners sugar.
