Apple Bread

List of Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbs. sour milk * or buttermilk
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 2 cups peeled and chopped apples
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- Topping:
- 2 Tbs. sugar
- 2 Tbs. flour
- 2 Tbs. melted butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Cream butter and sugar; add eggs. Blend in flour and salt. Dissolve baking soda in sour milk; add to batter.
- Fold in apples and nuts; pour into greased 9x5-inch loaf pan. Spread topping over batter. Bake 1-1 1/4 hours.
- Test center carefully; cool 10 minutes in pan; turn on rack to cool completely.
Final Comments
*To sour fresh milk, blend 1/2 tsp. vinegar with 2 Tbs. milk. Let stand; remeasure to use.
