Chess Squares
This is a very rich, melt in your mouth dessert.
List of Ingredients
- 2 sticks (1/2 pound) butter, melted
- 1 pound of dark brown sugar
- 1 cup white sugar
- 4 eggs, separated
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 cups flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chopped nuts
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- powdered sugar
Instructions
- Blend melted butter, dark brown sugar and regular sugar.
- Add egg yolks and beat well.
- Add baking powder and salt to butter mixture, then add flour, mixing well.
- Fold in nuts and vanilla.
- Beat egg whites until stiff and add to creamed mixture.
Batter will be very thick.
- Spread batter into greased and lightly floured 9x13" pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 35-45 minutes. When done sprinkle with powdered sugar.
- Allow to cool before serving.
