    Chess Squares

    This is a very rich, melt in your mouth dessert.


    List of Ingredients


    • 2 sticks (1/2 pound) butter, melted
    • 1 pound of dark brown sugar
    • 1 cup white sugar
    • 4 eggs, separated
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 2 cups flour
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup chopped nuts
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • powdered sugar


    Instructions


    1. Blend melted butter, dark brown sugar and regular sugar.
    2. Add egg yolks and beat well.
    3. Add baking powder and salt to butter mixture, then add flour, mixing well.
    4. Fold in nuts and vanilla.
    5. Beat egg whites until stiff and add to creamed mixture.
      Batter will be very thick.
    6. Spread batter into greased and lightly floured 9x13" pan.
    7. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-45 minutes. When done sprinkle with powdered sugar.
    8. Allow to cool before serving.
