Lemon Walnut Bread

List of Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup (3 sticks) butter
- 3 cups sugar
- 6 eggs
- 4 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
- minced or grated zest of two lemons
- Glaze:
- Juice of four lemons
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
- Butter and flour 3 9x5 pans.
- Cream butter and sugar, beat in eggs one at a time.
- Add dry ingredients alternatly with buttermilk.
- Add walnuts and lemon zest.
- Bake 1 hour or until tests done.
- Cool 5 minutes.
- Remove from pans to cooling rack.
- To make glaze:Mix the juice of the four lemons with the sugar in a saucepan over ow heat until sugar is dissolved. While loaves are still warm, pierce the tops and spoon glaze over them.
- These freeze very well.
