    Lemon Walnut Bread

    List of Ingredients


    • 1 1/2 cup (3 sticks) butter
    • 3 cups sugar
    • 6 eggs
    • 4 1/2 cups flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon soda
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
    • 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
    • minced or grated zest of two lemons
    • Glaze:
    • Juice of four lemons
    • 1 1/2 cups sugar


    Instructions


    1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

    2. Butter and flour 3 9x5 pans.

    3. Cream butter and sugar, beat in eggs one at a time.

    4. Add dry ingredients alternatly with buttermilk.

    5. Add walnuts and lemon zest.

    6. Bake 1 hour or until tests done.

    7. Cool 5 minutes.

    8. Remove from pans to cooling rack.

    9. To make glaze:Mix the juice of the four lemons with the sugar in a saucepan over ow heat until sugar is dissolved. While loaves are still warm, pierce the tops and spoon glaze over them.

    10. These freeze very well.
