    List of Ingredients


    • 6 1/2 cups flour
    • 2 1/4 cups water
    • 4 packages dry yeast
    • 3/4 teaspoon sugar
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons lard
    • 4 1/3 cups flour
    • 1 1/2 cups water
    • 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
    • 2 1/2 teaspoons sugar
    • 2 tablespoons shortening


    Instructions


    1. Combine the first 5 ingredients in a large mixing bowl; mix with a heavy-duty electric mixer at high speed for 5 minutes.
    2. Place dough in a lightly greased large bowl, turning to grease to grease top.
    3. Cover dough and let rise in a warm place for at least 4 hours.
    4. Return dough to large mixing bowl.
    5. Add remaining ingredients and beat at high speed for 10 to 12 minutes.
    6. Tear dough into 5 equal portions and shape each portion into a 14-inch loaf.
    7. Place loaves on greased baking sheets.
    8. Put a pan of boiling water on the lower rack of oven to obtain steam.
    9. Bake at 425* for 25 to 30 minutes or until done.
