List of Ingredients
- 6 1/2 cups flour
- 2 1/4 cups water
- 4 packages dry yeast
- 3/4 teaspoon sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons lard
- 4 1/3 cups flour
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 2 1/2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons shortening
Instructions
- Combine the first 5 ingredients in a large mixing bowl; mix with a heavy-duty electric mixer at high speed for 5 minutes.
- Place dough in a lightly greased large bowl, turning to grease to grease top.
- Cover dough and let rise in a warm place for at least 4 hours.
- Return dough to large mixing bowl.
- Add remaining ingredients and beat at high speed for 10 to 12 minutes.
- Tear dough into 5 equal portions and shape each portion into a 14-inch loaf.
- Place loaves on greased baking sheets.
- Put a pan of boiling water on the lower rack of oven to obtain steam.
- Bake at 425* for 25 to 30 minutes or until done.
