To make sourdough mix:
½ cup basic batter
1 cup undiluted evaporated milk
2 cups unsifted flour
Night before: Combine basic batter, evaporated milk and flour in large bowl; leave overnight in warm place.
Next morning: Add following ingredients to sourdough mixture
¼ cup soft butter
3 tablespoons sugar
1 egg
1-1/2 cups unsifted flour (or more)
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
Recipe
Beat together butter, sugar and egg; blend into sourdough mixture. Combine the dry ingredients; mix with batter. Turn onto floured board and knead until the surface is satiny and doesn’t stick to board (add flour if necessary). Place ball of dough in the center of board and roll out to a rectangle 8” X 16”. Brush surface with melted butter (2 tablespoons_ and sprinkle with a mixture of ¼ cup brown sugar and 1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon (add raisins if you desire). Roll up dough, starting on one of the long sides; cut roll at ¾” intervals. Dip top and bottom of each roll in melted butter, place in a square 9” pan, cover loosely, and let rise in a warm spot for about an hour, or until nearly doubled. Bake at 375° F. for 30-35 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Makes 9 large rolls. Glaze or add icing if desired.
