    Old Fashioned Hard Tack

    Christmas would not be Christmas without homemade hard tack in the candy bowl.


    List of Ingredients


    • 4 cup sugar
    • 2 cup Karo
    • 1 cup water
    • food coloring
    • flavoring(flavor and amount as desired)


    Instructions


    1. Mix sugar,Karo,water and coloring together in large heavy bottomed pan. Boil til 280 degrees or soft ball stage.
    2. Add flavoring,shake well but do not stir. Pour onto buttered cookie sheet and cool until able thandle and cut into 1 inch pieces. Cool completely on waxed paper.

    My mother and I used to make this candy at the kitchen table.
