The Warmest Room in the House
What Can We Make Today?
|
Welcome to the warmest room in the house! Our lives are busy, and it's true, I am no chef du jour, but when the weather begins to cool off, and the sky wears a beautiful shade of grey, we like to spend our evenings in the kitchen. Together, Oceanna and I have learned to bake pies, streusel and every kind of Christmas cookie imagineable. We have also discovered cooking from "scratch" ~ our first chili, winter soup, and rolls straight from the most basic ingredients on up. Mikey, of course, is there to lick the spoon. |

I remember when I was young, my mom had a huge black woodstove in her kitchen. It was beautiful ~ massive and warm. On cold winter mornings, she'd wake up early, get breakfast going, and by the time we wandered, sleepy-eyed, into her kitchen, the stove would be pumping out good, solid heat. I remember one morning in particular, laying rolled towels on the open door of the stove and propping our outstretched legs on the towels. Our feeties warmed up while Mom prepared her DELICIOUS biscuits and gravy! |

We're living in a different time now, but hopefully someday my kids will look back on some fond memory in MY kitchen. So, we keep on trying new recipes, collecting old ones, and sharing our time together. It's something I learned when I was a kid. Thanks, Mom! |
