Recipe Introduction
I think these are a more traditional biscuit because the recipe doesn't call for sugar. They bake up light and delicious.
List of Ingredients
2 cups Flour
1 Tbsp. Baking Powder
1 tsp. Salt
1/3 cup Crisco
3/4 cup MilkRecipe
Heat oven to 425ºF.
Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Cut in Crisco using a pastry blender (or 2 knives) to form coarse crumbs. Add milk. Mix with a fork until particles are moistened and cling together. Form dough into a ball.
Transfer dough to lightly floured surface. Knead gently 8 to 10 times. Roll dough 1/2-inch thick. Cut with a floured 2-inch round cutter. Place on ungreased baking sheet.
Bake at 425ºF for 12 to 14 minutes.
Makes 12 to 16 biscuits.
Variation 1: Cheese Biscuits
Add 1/2 cup grated Cheddar Cheese with the dry ingredients.
Variation 2: Southwestern Biscuits
Add 1 4-oz. can diced Green Chilies, drained and 1/2 cup grated Monterey Jack Cheese with the dry ingredients.
Variation 3: Cinnamon Biscuits
Melt 3 Tbsp. of Margarine, Butter or Butter-flavored Crisco and brush biscuit tops. Sprinkle with cinnamon just before baking.
