Italian Sausage Sandwiches
If you love Italian sausage like I do, you're going to love these! I use the different peppers for color, but obviously the green peppers alone will work fine. Again, this recipe can easily be cut in half.
List of Ingredients
- 20 Italian Sausage links
- 2 large Green Peppers -- sliced thin
- 1 large Red Pepper -- sliced thin
- 1 large Yellow Pepper -- sliced thin
- 1 large Onion -- chopped
- 12 ounces Tomato Paste
- 15 ounces Tomato Sauce
- 2 cups water
- 1 tablespoon Sugar
- 4 Garlic cloves -- minced
- 2 teaspoons Basil
- 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 20 Sandwich Buns
- Shredded mozzarella cheese -- optional
Instructions
- In large dutch oven, brown sausages. Remove. Discard all but 2 Tbsp drippings. Saute peppers and onion until crisp-tender, drain. Add sauce, paste, water and all seasonings and mix well . Return sausages to pan and cover well with sauce. Bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 45 minutes. Serve on buns.
