Recipe Introduction
Can be spooned into cocktail rolls as an hors d'oeuvre or piled onto hamburger buns for lunch or dinner.
List of Ingredients
2 1/2 lbs. lean ground beef
2 large onions, chopped
1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper (optional)
1 cup V-8 vegetable juice or tomato juice
2/3 cup catsup
2 Tbs. sugar
1/4 cup white vinegar
2 Tbs. Worcestershire sauce
Recipe
1. In a large fry pan or dutch oven cook the meat and vegetables over medium heat until the meat is browned and the vegetables are tender, about 30 minutes.
2. Stir in the V-8, catsup, sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and simmer, covered with lid slightly askew over low heat for 2 hours. The mixture will resemble spaghetti sauce. Remove the lid during the last 1/2 hour of cooking if it seems to thin.
3. The sauce will keep for several days in the refrigerator, freezes well, and may be reheated in the microwave.
