Recipe Introduction
The kids call this grown-up monkey bread. I adapted this recipe to suit our family's tastes, and you can change it easily, too! See how fast it disappears when the gang watches football this fall!
List of Ingredients
1 loaf frozen bread dough, thawed
2 T olive oil
1 envelope ranch dip mix
8 ounces sliced pepperoni
8 ounces grated mozzarella cheese Recipe
Place the oil and dip mix in a large bowl, stir to blend. Use kitchen shears or pizza cutter to cut dough into walnut sized balls. Drop a few balls of dough at a time into oil/dip mix and toss to coat. (Hands work well here) Use the shears to cut sliced pepperoni into smaller chunks, sized more like corn flakes than slices of pepperoni. Put chopped pepperoni on a paper towel covered paper plate and microwave on normal power for 45 seconds. Let drain on the paper towels (you will be amazed at the grease this removes from the pepperoni) then combine with the coated dough balls. Add the cheese, stir to combine. Spread on a greased cookie sheet and cover with plastic wrap and let sit for 20 minutes while the oven heats to 375 degrees. Dough will start to rise. Bake 35 minutes or until nicely browned. Cut apart with pizza cutter, or serve whole and let the gang pull it apart like a pack of hungry monkeys. You can make this with bacon, chopped kielbasa, cooked Italian sausage, change the cheese to cheddar or monterey jack. Add veggies like mushrooms or broccoli. It's easy to change around and make it completely new every time you bake it.
