    Loaf Bread: Magpie’s Lemon Poppy Seed Bread

    Old Town St. Charles.. located right across the river from St. Louis, is Old Town St. Charles -- an area of shops and boutiques housed in original turn of the century old buildings. Among these is Magpie's Restaurant, located at 903 South Main Street. In the summer, there is also patio dining. One of their other signature offerings is Baked Potato Soup, which is to die for 3 C. flour
    2-1/4 C. sugar
    1-1/4 tsp. salt
    2 tsp. baking powder
    2 Tablespoon. poppy seeds
    3 eggs, slightly beaten
    1-1/2 C. vegetable oil or light olive oil
    1-1/2 C. milk
    1-1/2 tsp. almond extract
    1-1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
    1-1/2 tsp. butter flavoring
    Mix dry ingredients in large mixing bowl. Make a well in the center and add remaining ingredients. Mix two minutes on medium speed. Pour into greased loaf pans (Makes 2 full size loaves, 4 small loaves 3 x 7, or 8 mini-loaves). Bake at 350 degrees for 45 min. for large loaves, 30-35 min. for small loaves, or 25 min. for mini loaves. Poke holes in top with ice pick for glaze.

    GLAZE
    3/4 C. lemon juice
    1/2 C. sugar
    1/2 tsp. almond extract
    1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
    1/2 tsp. butter flavoring
    Mix till sugar is dissolved. Pour over loaves while they are warm. Cool before freezing or wrapping as
    gifts.
