    Waffles: Iron Orange French Toast

    Toast: 60 Ways to Butter Your Bread and Then Some

    List of Ingredients

    3 eggs
    1 cup milk
    1/2 cup fresh orange juice
    3 Tbsp sugar
    1 tsp vanilla
    1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
    1 Tbsp finely grated orange zest (preferably organic)
    8 bread slices, 3/4-inch thick (can use white, sourdough,
    brioche, raisin, cinnamon, challah, etc.)
    2 Tbsp unsalted butter at room temperature, if needed

    Recipe

    Preheat waffle iron on medium.


    In pie plate or shallow bowl, beat together eggs, milk, orange juice, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and orange zest. Soak bread in egg-milk mixture for at least 15 seconds per side. The longer the bread is soaked, the moister the French toast. Cook immediately or refrigerate until ready to use. (Can be refrigerated overnight.)


    If using a regular waffle iron, brush it lightly with butter. If waffle iron is nonstick, no butter is needed. Place bread in waffle iron. Close iron and, using a sharp knife, cut off any bread that extends beyond iron's edge. Cook about 5 minutes or until bread is toasted.
