Recipe Introduction
This was a family favorite from WWII when sugar was rationed.
List of Ingredients
1 can Borden's Sweetened Condensed Milk
1½ squares baking chocolate
¼ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 scant cup rolled oats
½ cup nutmeats
1 teaspoon vanilla
Recipe
Cook the first two ingredients over low heat until chocolate is melted & mixture is very thick (like a real thick chocolate pudding). Remove from heat.
Add remaining ingredients. Drop by teaspoon onto greased sheet. May decorate each one with 1/2 candied red or green cherry or 1/2 nut. Bake at 350º for about 10 minutes; watch carefully as they easily burn on bottom. Remove immediately & cool on rack. Makes about 2 1/2 dozen cookies
