    Recipe Introduction

Harry Truman was a local political figure in his hometown of Independence, Missouri when he was tapped to run as F.D. Roosevelt's Vice President...so disdainful of Truman was FDR that he never referred to "the Vice President " by name, nor did he include him in any briefings or knowledge of what was going on in the White House...this presented a real challenge when FDR died suddenly and Harry became President. To many people's surprise he defeated Dewey in the next election.. Harry loved to play the piano, especially the "Missouri Waltz".. he also loved his poker games and for most of his long life, started the day with a brisk walk, leaving reporters behind. His beloved Bess made no secret about her preference to spend the majority of her time at their home , Independence, Missouri and corresponded faithfully from the "Midwest White House. Being a wife and the mother to Margaret was her life .[Harry called her the Boss}... "The buck stops here" was an engraved sign that was prominently displayed on his desk and the way he lived...as history and time has a way of doing, Harry S. Truman, 50 years after his Presidency, as emerged with a respect for the hard decisions he had to make...
