egg custard and coconut pies are not the same. The basic custard recipes make the difference. Coconut Pie is a creamier mixture.
Egg Custard pie has been on the top of my favorites list for more years than I can count!
This Coconut Chiffon Pie is a winner:
List of Ingredients
3 egg whites beaten lightly
1 cup of sugar
3 rounded tsp of flour
1 cup of milk
1 tbls butter
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 cup of shredded coconut
1 9" unbaked pie shell
Recipe
Beat eggs slightly add 1/2 of sugar and beat 10 minutes.
Cook remaining sugar, flour, milk, butter, and vanilla over medium heat.
Add to egg mixture, add coconut, leaving some to sprinkk on top.
Spread in unbaked pie shell and sprinkle coconut on top.
Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour
This browns nicely on top and needs no meringue or other topping.
