    Sally Danforth from a tailgate party after a Kansas City Chief's Victory.. 6 cups water
    2 cups dried lentils
    1 thick slice country ham, diced
    1 caorsely chopped onion
    2 stalks celery, sliced
    1 garlic clove, split
    8 whole peppercorns
    1 tsp. salt

    Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer about 2 1/2 hours, covered. With a ladle remove about 2 cups hot soup and puree in a blender. Return puree to the pot and heat to the boiling point. Serve garnished with croutons.
